Toyota Debuts Its All-New 2019 RAV4 Crossover in New York

Toyota's top-selling crossover is getting a major makeover for the 2019 model-year--and the brand just trotted it out this week at the New York International Auto Show.

It's no secret that the popular Toyota RAV4 SUV is going to sell in big numbers no matter what; but, the RAV4 has also gone without a major redesign since 2013. It's time for a change.

New Underpinnings

An exciting advancement for the Toyota RAV4 for 2019 is the addition of the Toyota New Global Architecture platform, the same platform that the recently-redesigned Camry was built on. The NGAP helps to optimize size, space, and efficiency while improving ride quality and safety.

The 2019 model will offer a longer wheelbase (by about 1.2 inches) and will be about half an inch wider--although the new RAV4 gets a little squatter to emphasize its sleek and aerodynamic styling.

A New, Bolder Style

The all-new 2019 Toyota RAV4 is pretty darn impressive to look at.

It seems like Toyota took some design cues from its popular 4Runner and even possibly the Highlander and the Tacoma, to give its typically-modest and somewhat-underwhelming small SUV a big new personality.

Although dimensions have increased by minimal amounts, this compact crossover looks huge, thanks to sharper character lines, aggressive new grooves, and a sharp dive at the rear hatch.

We haven't yet heard of powertrain figures for the new 2019 RAV4 and RAV4 Hybrid, but we look forward to learning more as Toyota rolls out specs.

The new 2019 RAV4 is expected to go on sale in PA at the end of this year--and the 2019 RAV4 Hybrid is expected to be available early 2019.
